State University Graduates, 1988—1989: Bachelor's Degrees

Of the 255 people awarded bachelor's degrees (actually, there were more of them, but the program was missing several pages), 169 were women and 86 were men.

The Women

Among the women, 78 (46.15%) had only one given name, 82 (48.52%) had two, and nine (5.33%) had three.

First Given Names

The most popular initials for the first given name are M (66, 39.05%), A (20, 11.83%), R (15, 8.88%), C (10, 5.92%), and J (10, 5.92%). No one had a first given name that started with B, I, O, Q, T, U, X, or Y.

The most popular initials for the second given name are A (13, 14.29%), M (13, 14.29%), L (10, 10.99%), C (9, 9.89%), and R (9, 9.89%). No one had a second given name that started with D, H, K, O, Q, U, W, X, Y, or Z.

The Men

Among the men, 49 (56.98%) had only one given name, 34 (39.53%) had two, and three (3.49%) had three.

First Given Names

The most popular initials for the first given name are R (15, 17.44%), A (14, 16.28%), J (8, 9.30%), E (7, 8.14%), and D (6, 6.98%). No one had a first given name that started with I, K, Q, U, X, Y, or Z.

Name Thoughts
Jonard If my hunch is correct, this is an early example of parents combining two names they like (Jonathan + Gerard in this case, perhaps) and giving the result to the baby. This style of name will become more common among Filipinos born later, but in this batch (likely born in the 60s), he stands out.
Tammy Yes, that's how his name is spelled. I'm guessing that his parents saw it as a variation of Tommy, unlike Americans who might remember the Tammy films and think, "girl." Or maybe it's short for Tamerlane. Who knows?

Numerical Suffixes

Seven (8.14%) men had numerical suffixes attached to their names. Of these, five (71.43%) were Jr, one (14.29%) was III, and one (14.29%) was IV.
